A dispute over jackfruit plucking led one villager to kill another with an axe. The incident took place in Sardabera village of Hutu panchayat under the Kandra thana area of adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 25 km away.
The victim, identified as Konda Munda (40), plucked a jackfruit from a tree that falls under the compound of his neighbour Sonia Munda on Tuesday evening. When Sonia Munda came to know about this in the night, he called Konda and scolded the victims for the act.
Eventually, an argument broke out between them, prompting Sonia Munda, 35, to bring an axe from his house and repeatedly strike the victim until he died. Sonia Munda killed a neighbour and ran out of the place with an axe into the adjacent jungle.
OC, Kandra thana, and Rajendra Prasad Mahto confirmed the murder, which resulted in a dispute over jackfruit.
“We are trying to trace the attacker Sonia Munda, who ran away after committing the murder. Our efforts are in Kandra jungle as villagers have pointed out that Sonia Munda has run away towards the forest patch,” the OC said.
The police have sent the body to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for post-mortem as they have registered a case of the murder of Sonia Munda.
